The centre is located in Áras Bhréanainn, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh in the West Kerry Gaeltacht and was established in 2020. The Corca Dhuibhne or West Kerry Gaeltacht is one of two Gaeltacht areas served by Kerry Education and Training Board. The focus is on developing and providing accredited and non -accredited Irish Language Education and Training courses both for learners and for the local Irish speaking community as well as a range of leisure, craft and local heritage courses through the medium of Irish under Community Education. Such courses are an essential part of the Irish Language Plans of Kerry Education & Training Board and of Tobar Dhuibhne, West Kerry and for the provision of Adult Education through the medium of Irish in the Dingle Peninsula.
Adult Irish Language learners are welcome to attend accredited TEG courses and undertake Irish Language proficiency tests (Teastas Eorpach sa Ghaeilge = European Certificate in Irish Language) from levels A1 for Beginners to C1 for more advanced students. Other non-accredited courses aim to improve learners’ proficiency in speaking and writing skills and highlight the cultural aspects of life in the Dingle Peninsula.
There is a particular emphasis on courses in Local History, Literature, Folklore and Archaelogy reflecting the richness and diversity of sites, topics, resources and works of literature available in the Dingle Peninsula. As far as possible, sustainability and biodiversity will be the theme of guided walking courses, leisure and gardening courses.
Centres available locally include the Dingle Further Education & Training Centre, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne in Dingle and Áras Bhréanainn Chorca Dhuibhne in Ballyferriter.
All courses are part time and offered at times that are most suitable for participants.
