Launch of our Sustainability Strategy 2020- 2022

Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) on February 23rd 2021 launched their inaugural Sustainability Strategy 2020-2022.

This strategy has been developed following an organisation-wide consultation process and represents Kerry ETB’s shared commitment to enhancing existing and adopting new sustainable practices over the course of the next three years.

Kerry ETB’s core vision is to make a positive impact environmentally, socially and economically through developing new and enhancing existing Sustainability initiatives. This will be achieved by focusing on the identified “Sustainable Goals”:

  • Staff Engagement
  • Student, Learner and Trainee Engagement
  • External Stakeholder Engagement
  • Energy Sustainability Management
  • Estates Management

The strategy was launched by virtually in line with Public Heath Advice and the current Level 5 COVID-19 restrictions. The occasion was marked by a recorded video message from former Kerry ETB Board member and Minister for Education, Ms Norma Foley, TD.

The Minister in launching the Sustainability Strategy 2020-2022 welcomed this development of the formal strategy by the ETB and wished the ETB every success in its implementation. The Minister also acknowledged the work of Kerry ETB in promoting sustainable practices across the scheme over the years, for example the Green Schools projects, the development and delivery of training programmes to support sustainable industries etc.

Key ambitious initiatives in the Sustainability Strategy include:

  • Appointment of a Sustainability Officer
  • Establishment of a Sustainability Forum
  • Develop Electricity Generation Policy
  • Develop Plan to meet long-term Carbon Neutral requirements
  • Schools to participate in ETBI Take 1 program
  • Establishment of a Green Campus (Kerry College)
  • Expansion of Further Education and Training (FET) courses that meet the needs of the low carbon society.

Kerry ETB now looks forward to the successful dissemination and implementation of the strategy’s goals and actions over the next few months and years.
