Refurbishment of Two Mile Community National School

Refurbishment of Two Mile Community National School

2019 has been another very successful year for Two Mile Community National School. On Wednesday the 30th August 2017 marked a very significant day as Kerry ETB opened the doors of the Two Mile Community National School. The Two Mile Community National School is the only multi denominational school in the Killarney area. Mr. Brendan Griffin TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport officiated at the launch. Two years later and we gather here once more with Minister Griffin who officially launches the refurbishment of the Two Mile Community National School.

The Two Mile Community National School serves the needs of the local and wider community and fully celebrates diversity.

As well as its unique multidenominational ethos, having Kerry ETB as its patron is significant in what the school has to offer. Kerry ETB is a locally based state agency and is already the patron of 2 other Community National Schools and 8 post primary schools in Kerry. Kerry ETB is also the largest provider of adult further education in Kerry. The ETB provides key administrative, IT, HR, Capital Buildings and many other supports to its schools. This ensures that the staff of the school can focus on excellence in teaching and learning.

Mr. Brendan Griffin TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport stated, This is very positive progress in such a short time.  It is hugely encouraging and a great symbol of a rural community fighting back to secure the future for their school.  I’m delighted that the school got support from the Capital Improvement Works Grant.  This will make a massive contribution to the future of the school for many years to come.”

Catherine Barry, Principal of Two Mile Community National School said, “I wish to express my gratitude to the Department of Education and Skills and to Kerry Education and Training Board for the fine refurbishment of Two Mile Community National School. Since opening in 2017, the school provides for diversity and choice in the Killarney area with the support of Kerry ETB. The learning experience of the children will be enhanced by the warm, comfortable and attractive environment as we continue to provide the high standard of education that is characteristic of the Community National School model. “

Ann O’Dwyer, Director of Schools, Kerry ETB “Kerry ETB welcomes the Department of Education and Skills recent refurbishment grant for the Two Mile Community National School in Killarney. Kerry ETB together with the Two Mile CNS Board of Management and staff look back on a very successful year. Enrolments continue to grow, parents have been hugely positive about the quality of quality of teaching and learning, student care and extracurricular opportunities in the school as well as the commitment to parental and community involvement. The provision of the preschool Little Explorers on site has also been a huge asset to the school. The Parents Council have also joined the Kerry ETB Parents Forum and are now aware of and availing of the opportunities for training and support for parents in ETB schools such as Parenting Courses, ICT Courses etc.

Pádraig Ó Donnabháin, Chairperson on the School Board of Management, said “”Two Mile Community National School commences its third year with an outstanding job of refurbishment completed over the summer period.
