Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) are delighted to announce the transfer of patronage from the Bishop of Kerry to Kerry ETB for Scoil an Ghleanna. Scoil an Ghleanna, Pobal Scoil Náisiúnta is the second Community National school to be opened under the patronage of Kerry ETB.
Scoil an Ghleanna Pobal Scoil Náisiúnta will be the first Gaeltacht Community National School in Ireland (CNS) and is located in the idyllic setting of St. Finnian’s bay, Ballinskelligs looking out at Sceilg Mhichíl. The school, in common with other Community National Schools, will provide inclusive and innovative education to meet the needs of students and the wider community. The school offers a broad range of extra-curricular activities and students benefit from a very good student teacher ratio where all subjects are taught through the medium of Irish.
In the Community National School model, the ETB is the employer of all the staff as well as the corporate body with overall responsibility for governance. The school will have a Board of Management with responsibility for overall strategic planning and policy development for the school.
Colm McEvoy, CEO Kerry ETB stated, “the expansion of the number of Community National Schools is a positive and welcome development for Kerry ETB. I wish to thank the Bishop of Kerry, the Department of Education and Skills and the local community for their support for making this transition possible”.
“Another distinguishing feature of the CNS model is its multidenominational ethos. The school will cater for children of all faiths and beliefs equally. Parents of children in existing CNS schools appreciate that these schools make space for the spiritual part of a child’s identity while respecting all faiths and secular beliefs equally.” Ann O’Dwyer Director of Schools Kerry ETB
The school is accepting enrolments. Anyone interested in enrolling their child should contact 066 9479330 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
