The Kerry Adult Guidance and Information Service (KAGIS), is the part of the Kerry Education and Training Board, which offers a professional Adult Guidance and Information Service to eligible people in Kerry.

How can KAGIS help you?

There are two parts to KAGIS
  • Information Supports and
  • Guidance Counselling 
KAGIS offers impartial one-to-one
  • access to an information officer
  • educational and training guidance
  • career guidance

Please note if you are going to visit KAGIS you are advised to arrange an appointment first otherwise we may not be able to see you on the day you drop in.

The KAGIS Information Service is available to any adult living in Kerry.

In our Information Centre there are client computers available as well as paper based information and online information.

Guidance Counselling
"Guidance helps people to: plan their lives, their learning and their work" (NCGE Evaluation Sub-Committee).
 

Who is eligible for Guidance Counselling?

In general, adults living in Kerry who: 

  • are thinking about doing a course with Kerry ETB*
    OR
  • are unemployed and/or in receipt of a social welfare payment
    OR
  • did not finish school first time around.

* If there is no guidance counsellor in your centre already.

All Guidance Counsellors in KAGIS are professional qualified and are registered members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC).

Funding and grants

The Kerry Adult Guidance & Information Service has developed this information sheet for Full Time and Part time Adult Education.

A comprehensive information resource on financial supports for students in further and higher education.The website provides user-friendly information on a variety of schemes, including:

On-line Student Grant Application System. The Student grant is available to students on Post Leaving Certificate Courses (PLCs) and full-time higher education undergraduate courses. All applications must be made through this on-line system

Courses and Training Available

Careers Information

Further Education and Training or FET, offers a wide variety of life-long education options to anyone over 16. FET includes apprenticeships, traineeships, Post Leaving Cert (PLC) courses, community and adult education as well as core literacy and numeracy services. FET courses and programmes are provided through the Education and Training Board network throughout the country as well as through other local providers including online through SOLAS’ eCollege. FET courses are provided at levels one to six on the National Framework of Qualifications

A website dedicated to those who want to plan their career. The website includes tools to find out more about yourself to help you plan your career, such as an Interest Profiler to establish your areas of career interest; information on employment sectors and occupations; and information about learning such as Adult Education information and PLC course search.

A comprehensive listing of Further and Higher Education courses in Ireland, including universities, institutes of technology and PLC colleges. Northern Irish courses also included. User-friendly search facility which lets you narrow down your search by course type, province, county and more. The site also contains useful tools (such as a points calculator) and information on a variety of topics relating to going to college.

Useful Links

The Central Applications Office (CAO) processes applications from students applying to Irish Higher Education Institutions. Students can find closing dates, points for previous years and dates for open days as well as the online application facility.
