Little Explorers Preschool Opens in Kerry Education and Training Board’s Two Mile Community National School

Kerry ETB are delighted to announce the opening of Little Explorers Preschool in the Two Mile Community National School, Killarney County Kerry. The Preschool officially opened its doors on Monday the 25th of September with 10 children enrolled so far.

Ann O'Dwyer Director of Schools with Kerry ETB said she is delighted that local woman Sharon O’Riordan agreed to set up and run this new private facility. Sharon is originally from Killarney and is now living locally in Ballyhar. Sharon has long had a love of working with children and completed her QQI levels 5 in Childcare in Killarney Community College and levels 6 in Kerry College of Further Education.

Sharon worked tirelessly to ensure that Little Explorers Preschool has become a reality. Sharon was initially approached by local Community representatives including Tim Horgan, Connie Daly, Lisa Casey and Sheila O'Donoghue who she is very grateful to. She began advertising the Preschool in the Summer and before long the need amongst other local parents became apparent. Kerry ETB are delighted to support this expressed requirement from the local community and it is with great excitement for the local area that the Preschool is now officially opening.

Sharon’s vision is to create an educational, stimulating and safe environment for the Children. According to Sharon ‘my aim is to provide a high quality Pre-School for each child and their families, a facility that is accessible to all sections of the community and run in partnership with the parents’

Ann O ‘Dwyer added that Kerry ETB ‘are very fortunate that a local Childcare Provider Sharon O’Riordan is opening the Preschool on site alongside the Two Mile Community National School. This will really complement the overall school programme and give the young children an invaluable introduction to School life’

Catherine Barry the Principal of the Two Mile Community National School stated “we at the Two Mile Community National School are delighted to be associated with Little Explorers Pre-School. This is a wonderful opportunity for children of pre-school age in the locality to experience the transition from home to school environment. I wish Sharon and all her explorers great success’.

Parents, Community Representatives, members of Kerry ETB Board and Staff joined Sharon and the children at an opening ceremony on Friday the 22nd at 1:30pm.  Sharon welcomed the gathering with well wishes for the Preschools future and for the futures of the little Pupils being the theme of the day. Sharon took the opportunity to thank all those who had helped make this venture a reality including all the local Two Mile community representatives, Catherine Barry Principal, Kerry County Childcare, Kerry ETB, Ann O'Dwyer Director of Schools, Cllr Brendan Cronin, Minister Brendan Griffin TD, Donna Griffin from Creative Kids and family and friends for the endless support.

The preschool is still accepting enrolment. Anyone interested in enrolling their child should contact Sharon O'Riordan on 086 0594897
